God is Glorified by Protecting Judah
2 Kings 18:5-8,13-16,31-9:7,19:35-37; Romans 8:31-39
2 Kings 19:19(NIV): Now, Lord our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone, Lord, are God.”
Hezekiah, the King of Judah, faced an overwhelming threat of invasion from the all conquering Assyrian army. How does faith in God help us in a time of crisis?
God protected Hezekiah when he:
- Trusted God - 2 Kings 18:5-8
- Did what he could - 2 Kings 18:14-15
- Sought wise counsel - 2 Kings 19:1-4
- Prayed - 2 kings 19:15-16, 19
Hezekiah trusted God, and God saved Judah from the Assyrians.
2 Kings 19:35-36(NIV): That night the angel of the Lord went out and put to death a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the Assyrian camp. When the people got up the next morning—there were all the dead bodies! So Sennacherib king of Assyria broke camp and withdrew. He returned to Nineveh and stayed there.
Our challenge is to shift our focus from our crisis to our all conquering God. Jesus won the battle on the cross. We just need to believe.
Romans 8:31-32(NIV): What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?
