David Fights for God’s Honour
1 Samuel 17:1-50; John 10:9-11
1 Samuel 17:37(NIV): The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you.”
Everyone loves a hero. Although we may never have to face a giant like Goliath, we face challenges every day. The principles David used can be applied to our situation today.
David –
1. Refused To Accept Defeat - v16, 24-26, John 10:10
“Give me a man…..” v10
The gospel is about winning, not running away.
2. Resisted Opposition - v28
Christians are called to stand out, not blend in. Notice that the opposition came from David’s own brother. Math 5:11-12
3. Had Confidence In God - v37, John 10:11
“The Lord who delivered me…. will deliver me.”
Recalling God’s past faithfulness is a key to facing current challenges. Psalm 121
4. Had Confidence in Himself - v38-40
“I’ll strike you down and cut off your head.” V46
We’ll never know if we can walk on water until we step out of the boat.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Phil 4:13
5. Released Others with Him - v52
As Christians, we have a responsibility to set the captives free. Luke 4:18-19
What challenges do you need to face today?
